Student Assistance and Family Empowerment

Purpose

The Student Assistance and Family Empowerment Program, or SAFE, provides a comprehensive range of prevention and intervention services for students and their families at SunRidge Middle School. The focus is based on students' needs in the areas of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and violence prevention. A variety of curricula and programs are used to support that goal.

Ms. Kushner is a Florida native. She grew up in Cooper City, FL and moved to Orlando to attend college at the University of Central Florida (GO KNIGHTS!) where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Social Science Education 6-12 and her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. She has worked at Bridgewater Middle, Windermere High, and Apopka Memorial Middle school. Previous roles have included teaching, ELL CCT, Dean, and SAFE Coordinator. Ms.Kushner loves being a SAFE Coordinator, and is an advocate of student leadership, social/emotional learning, and growing and developing the whole child. When she’s not at work you can find her at Disney with her family, cheering on the UCF Knights, enjoying a Broadway production at the Dr.Phillips Center, trying new restaurants with friends, or having a sleepover with her nieces.
